Wednesday:
We have interpersonal communication class today. In these classes (we only have two) we take part in these communication classes with other students from Edmonds. We learn about your use of choice of words and body language, when we communicate with other people. We also talk about definitions of never, seldom, almost and ever and we draw the conclusion that it depends context; geographic location, the quantity etc.. We are in small groups talking about the comparison and difference between American culture and Danish culture.
Every time I have told an American that
1) we pay high taxes; it free to take an education and go the doctor/hospital
2) we can drink alcohol, when we are 16 and 18 years old
3) the American presidential election also has a big impact on Denmark and Europe (we hear much about it in the television)
--> they are surprised :)
Some of the students wear Halloween costumes to school (some of the students are parents and about 30 years old). Today is Halloween!
(Children go around in the neighborhood; they knock on the door and say: "Trick or Treat". They have to wear costumes and then we got candy.)
(Hostmom Pam and hostsister Kotoe eating dinner Halloween evening. We eat almost "Danish" food; steak, vegetables and potatoes and milk chocolate to dessert.)
Thursday:
Today we went to a school trip on Boing; the Future of Flight.
(See the Danish flag)
There were a souvenir shop and an exhibition of the seats in the airplanes, airplane engine etc.
(Stine envious of people, who (pay a lots of money) fly on 1st class.)
We have a guide tour:
We heard about all the different types of airplanes, the company and the process to build an airplane. This company has their own doctor, fire station and police - and extreme many workers (three teams, which mean they work on the airplanes the whole day.) There are bicycles, then the workers have the opportunity to cycle from one place to another, because the building is huge.
(The airplane, you can see at the picture, is called "Dream Lifter"
and transports some parts to the new airplanes.)
(The building, you can see at the picture, is the biggest building by volume. The new airplanes are built in this building.)
If you will order an airplane, it will be finish in 2019, but as their slogan says: "If it is not Boing, I´m not going."
It was very interesting to hear about the whole process of build and develop a new airplane and see, how so many people/workers can work together in one building.
A worth-while and good experience!
